4th Groundwater Symposium held during Nepal National Water Week in Kathmandu, Nepal (22 March, 2013)
ICRE-UY collaborated with local partners like Water and Energy Commission Secretariat (WECS), Nepal National Water Week (NNWW) Organizing Committee 2013, Center of Research for Environment Energy and Water (CREEW), The Small Earth Nepal (SEN), Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO), and Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Management Board (KVWSMB) to organize the "4th National Symposium on Challenges and Opportunities for Sustainable Management of Groundwater Resources of the Kathmandu Valley". The symposium held to commemorate the "World Water Day 2013" on 22 March at Hotel Himalaya in Kathmandu was one of the key events of NNWW-2013. Over 90 participants from 40 organizations/institutes including delegates from the Ministry of Irrigation, Ministry of Energy, INGOs, NGOs, UN Agencies, water service providers, universities and practitioners/professionals working in the field attended the symposium. The Symposium started at 09:10 lasted for nearly 7 hours.
From UY, Dr. Vishnu Prasad Pandey (researcher at ICRE) and Dr. Yoko Aihara, (researcher at Faculty of Medicine) joined the Symposium. Dr. Pandey moderated a discussion session titled "Stakeholders discussion on water supply in Kathmandu Valley". On the same day, Dr. Pandey also presented a summary of e-discussion on "Transboundary cooperation for water security in the Ganges Basin" during the closing ceremony of NNWW. Dr. Pandey was one of the moderators of the e-discussion hosted by NNWW-2013 during 9-18 March, 2013.
